Shirley Louise Marsh (age 85) of Albuquerque was called home to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on January 10, 2022. She was born September 26, 1936, in Raton, NM to Turner and Hazel Wood. Shirley is preceded in death by her husband Vernon Dale Marsh. They were happily married for nearly 65 years at the time of his passing in 2019. Shirley is survived by her sons Dale Marsh of Albuquerque, Jim and Donna Marsh of Pagosa Springs, CO, sister Betty Hord of Texas, and sister-in-law Donna Maddaleni of Raton, NM. Grandkids left behind include Emerson and Genevieve Marsh, Rachel and Andrew Walker, Shannon Marsh and fiancé Spencer Halliday, and Adam and Elise Marsh. Finally, the family wishes to acknowledge Shirley’s many friends from Monterey Baptist Church and Sandia Vista Senior Living as well as her many extended family members.
Shirley grew up in Raton, NM where she met Vernon, the love of her life. They were married on June 20, 1954. Early on, Shirley and Vernon lived in California, Missouri, and Colorado before finally settling down in Albuquerque with their two sons in 1963. Those who knew Shirley will tell you that she was completely devoted to her family and, once her boys became of age, she enrolled at Albuquerque Technical Vocational Institute (TVI) where she earned her associate degree and began a long professional career working for an architectural firm and a medical practice. Eventually, Shirley and Vernon purchased property in Sandia Park, NM where they retired and spent the next 32 years enjoying country life, the mountains, and abundant wildlife.
Shirley’s devotion to Jesus Christ is well known and was an active member of churches including Sandia Baptist, Tijeras Baptist, and Monterey Baptist during her many years in the Albuquerque area. For nearly 45 years, Shirley and Vernon faithfully served at Monterey in various capacities including the music ministry, Sunday School, and the Keenagers senior fellowship group.
In 2019, Shirley moved to Sandia Vista Senior Living where she enjoyed socializing with her many new friends and neighbors, shopping, dining out, and participating in the kazoo band.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation and gratitude to the staff at Presbyterian Hospital, The Rio at Las Estancias, Corus Hospice, and Sandia Vista for their care and compassion.
