Shirley Hurwitz

Shirley Hurwitz, age 89, a resident of Albuquerque since 1972, died Friday, July 11, 2014. She is survived by her spouse of 66 years, Leon Hurwitz; children, Elaine Beckett, and William Hurwitz and wife, Carla; grandchildren, April, Seth and wife, Ashley, Nova, Crystal, and Eva; great-grandchildren, Kera, Kelsie, Chris, and Everest; and nephews, Jay Steinberg and wife, Paula, and Rick Steinberg. Shirley was preceded in death by her father Isadore Epstein, mother, Ida Epstein, and sister, Elinor Steinberg. Shirley was a graduate of the Eastman School of Music. She was musical director of the Joyful Sounds singing group for many years, and active in community theaters. Shirley was a member of Hadassah and served as president of the Albuquerque Chapter. Her strong spirit, zest for life, and compassion for others will be missed by her family and friends. A memorial service will be held at Temple Albert, 3800 Louisiana Blvd, NE, on Monday, July 14, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. with a reception to follow.
