Shirley Jean Brabson

Shirley Jean Brabson passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 14th, 2015 in the comfort of her home, surrounded by friends and family. She is preceded in death by her parents (Etta and Robert) and her brothers (Riley, Merle, and Orville). She got her love of education and adventure from her father, but instead of patterning the earth with rows of wheat and pastures of green, she chose to quilt. As a wife and seamstress, she wove 56 years of marriage with Col. George Dana Brabson (USAF Ret.), adding colorful pieces to the family blanket with each new posting. As a mother and quilter, she patterned a family as diverse as the rainbow is colorful. Jennifer, the oldest child, resides in Santa Clara, California. Robert and his wife Kimberly (children Stephanie, Hannah, and Robert) reside in Tempe, Arizona. Andrew (Col. USAF Ret.) and his wife Lois (children Tamara and Skye) reside in Eagle River, Alaska. As a businesswoman and lifelong friend, she built the Quilt Works into a home for lovers of life's rich tapestry. Shirley will be deeply missed, but she has left behind thousands of 'quilts' for all of us to curl up with and remember the wife / teacher / mother / friend / grandmother called Shirley. We shall celebrate Shirley's life amidst her quilts and quilts inspired by her on Saturday, August 8, 2015, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the Cottonwoods Pavilion at the Hyatt Tamaya Resort and Spa, 1300 Tuyuna Tr., Bernalillo, NM 87004. A visiting time will be from 4:00 until 5:00 p.m. followed by a buffet dinner. Throughout the Celebration, Shirley's quilts will be on display, and following dinner, Dana will present some of his memories. In honor and in memory of Shirley, a Habitat for Humanity Endowment Fund has been established in her name: The Shirley J. Brabson Memorial Fund.
