Sherry Marie (Hammond) Ricketts, born on April 6, 1949 in Clovis, New Mexico to James and Grace Omega Hammond, left this earth for her home in heaven on December 3, 2015, when she finally won her battle with cancer. The cancer died with her physical body, but Sherry went with her Heavenly Father to her eternal reward.
Sherry is survived by her loving husband Fred W. Ricketts. They were married August 16, 1969 in Portales, New Mexico. They moved to Albuquerque in November of 1970. Sherry is also survived by her daughter Coral Dawn Ricketts and her partner, Tamara Hubbard; her son Shawn Ricketts and wife, JiSan Lopez; "adopted" son Todd Ditto and his wife, Rachael Hattler Ditto; grandson Colton Ditto; and "adopted" daughter Jody Willoughby; her four brothers and their spouses James ("Butch") and Barbara Hammond, Mike and Barbara Hammond, Jerry and Donita Hammond, and Rick and Phyllis Hammond; her husband's four brothers, sister and their respective spouses James and Lotus Ricketts, Forrest and Nelda Guy Ricketts, Albert and Jean Ricketts, Mary Beth and Loyd Smith, and Ralph and Carmelita Ricketts. Additionally, she is survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
Sherry worked for Wal-Mart at Academy and Wyoming for over 23 years with many friends and associates surviving. Sherry also started an Albuquerque chapter of the Red Hat Society (the "Duke City Mad Hatters") in 2005 of which she was their Queen. She thoroughly enjoyed her Red Hat experience. Sherry and Fred are members of Los Altos Christian Church.
Sherry was an amazing wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, sister-in-law and friend. She fulfilled all of her duties and titles with class, style, ethics, integrity, humility and honor. She was the ultimate role model. Sherry lived her life gracefully, showing great strength and intent with her purpose. She is loved and will be forever missed.
The family sincerely thanks family, friends, and associates for the tremendous outpouring of love over Sherry's life, and especially over the last two months. The family also thanks the staff and doctors of Presbyterian Hospital and MD Anderson Cancer Center, as well as the staff of Heritage Home Healthcare and Hospice for their loving care of our Sherry.
There will be a viewing on Sunday, December 6th from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Lomas. Her funeral service will be on Monday, December 7th beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Los Altos Christian Church at 11900 Haines Ave. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87112 with the Rev. Dr. Donald R. Sarton, a longtime friend of the family and former minister. Thereafter her body will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park at 924 Menaul Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87107 on December 7th at 3:00 p.m.. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Sherry may be given to the Santuario de Karuna, an animal sanctuary operated by Coral and Tamara.
