Sheldon John, 34, of Albuquerque, NM, beloved son, stepson, brother, grandson, cousin and uncle journeyed home October, 17, 2017 surrounded by his mother, aunts, uncle and cousins. Sheldon was born February 1, 1983 in Shiprock, NM to Cheryl John Matchers and Tommy C. Begay Jr.
Sheldon was preceded in death by his beloved maternal grandfather, Paul D.John, Sr.; cousins, Cassie Arthur and Kyle Johns; and paternal grandmother, Irene Brown.
Sheldon was well known for his love of art, music and computers. In school, he won numerous awards for his artwork and designed the mascot for the school t-shirt. He would make duplicate designs of his art so he could sell one and give one to his mother. His love of music stemmed from his being a part of a large family. His older family members exposed him to The Beatles, while the younger family members and friends introduced him to pop and rap music. Local bands in Las Vegas, NV, however, became a fast favorite. Sheldon was a natural on the computer. He loved his MAC computer and used it for work and play. In school at International Academy of Design and Technology in Henderson, NV, Sheldon was a go to for computer help. He graduated from IADT with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sound Engineering in July, 2014. Sheldon worked for many venues in Las Vegas, NV after graduation. Sometimes he would work for two or three venues at a time. He loved his job and he lived his dream. Sheldon loved many things, but his favorites were family, friends, turtles, and his beloved cat, Bratis.
Sheldon is survived by his mother, Cheryl John Matchers; stepfather, Marvin Matchers; father, Tommy C. Begay Jr.; stepmother, Earlene Begay; maternal grandmother, Anna M John and paternal grandfather, Tommy C. Begay Sr. along with many brothers, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Sheldon and his family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the University of New Mexico Hospital, MICU for the outstanding care that he received.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial Services will be held Friday, October 27, 2017, 10:00 a.m. at Bethel Christian Reformed Church at US-64 Shiprock, NM with a reception to follow and Saturday October 28, 2017, 10:00 a.m. at Grace Baptist Chapel, 12201 Comanche Rd. NE, Albuquerque, NM with a reception to follow.
