Sheila Barnes passed away peacefully at her home in Albuquerque on March 15, 2017. She was surrounded by family.

Sheila was born in Denver, Colorado to Maurice and Jane Aggeler. She is an alumna of St. Mary's Academy and the University of Colorado, a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma, and graduated with a degree in history and a minor in Italian. After college, she was a flight attendant with Pan American Airlines and flew around the world, enjoying a love for travel and meeting people which continued all her life. She later earned a teacher's certificate from College of Santa Fe and taught at Sunset Mesa Schools. She was active in Junior League and volunteered with numerous local organizations. Her time with Catholic Charities led to many years of loving relationships with refugee families from Liberia. She loved music and sang with the choir at the previous community of Aquinas Newman Center for more than 30 years. She also loved skiing, reading, her book club Bas Bleu, the outdoors, animals, and celebrating life with family & friends.

Sheila is preceded in death by her parents and her brother Anthony. She is survived by her two sons, Gregory Barnes and Jeremy Barnes and wife Heather Trost, and siblings, Anne Will of Santa Maria, CA, Maureen Aggeler of San Francisco, CA, Terry Aggeler of Santa Barbara, CA, and Janet Vanden of Martinez, CA, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, aunt and friend. A celebration mass will be held at John XXIII Catholic Community at 4831 Tramway Ridge Dr NE on March 25th at 10am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Catholic Charities or Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.
