Sergeant Class George V. Portillo

Sergeant First Class George V. Portillo, 69, a resident of Albuquerque since 2001, passed away Friday, June 15, 2012. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mercy Portillo; children, Ray George Portillo and wife, Karen, Margaret A. Ortiz and husband, Victor, and Manuel C. Portillo and wife, Nadine; grandsons, Anthony Ray Portillo, Christopher Angel Portillo, Andrew Michael Portillo, and Dominic Ray Portillo; sisters, Josie Jones, Veronica Cabrales and husband, David, Marie Rodriguez, and Elizabeth Buison. Mr. Portillo was preceded in death by his parents, Vivian and Margaret Portillo; brother, Richard Portillo, and sister, Gloria Portillo. SFC Portillo served for 21 years in the US Army. He was a member of the DAV. George was an avid bowler, fisher and golfer. He was a true blue San Francisco 49ers and Giants fan. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at French - University Chapel, with Deacon Manuel Montoya reciting. A prayer service will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 21, 2012, at San Felipe de Neri, 2005 N. Plaza St. NW, with Deacon Manuel Montoya, officiating. Interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Manuel C. Portillo, Martin Ramirez, Jr., Lorenzo Ramirez, Jr., Jessie J. Ramirez Jr., Frank M. Portillo, Jr., and Victor Valles. Honorary pallbearers will be David Cabrales, Anthony Portillo, Dominic Portillo, Christopher Portillo, and Andrew Portillo. Friends may visit French - University Chapel on Wednesday one hour prior to the rosary.
