Sarah M. Kime

May 29, 1938 — December 7, 2016

On December 7, 2016, in their Rio Rancho home, Sarah M. Kime left her loving family to take her rightful place among the angels. Sarah was born in New York State, where she graduated high school and worked for General Electric until she married. Her husband, Bill, of 58 years, was a career Air Force officer. Together they spent their military life at numerous locations in the United States.
Sarah had both a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Interdisciplinary Social Sciences and was at one time considered one of the top five experts in the country on the subject of Native American and Federal Government relations. She put this knowledge to use by her college teaching and by working at Minot State University as the Minority Counselor (Native American), where she changed the school's academic programs for Native Americans. While in Minot, North Dakota, she was also very active as a board member of the Dakota Association of Native Americans (DANA).
After leaving North Dakota, she was instrumental in halting a major and illegal tax levy in the Denver area, by bringing a little known aspect of law to the county authorities.
She was the USC Resident Center Director at Vandenberg AFB, CA, for a number of years. After moving to New Mexico, she became active in the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the Society of Mayflower Descendants, where she was a past State Historian.
Sarah is survived by her husband, Bill; their son, daughter, three granddaughters and a grandson.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 28, 2017, 1:00 p.m. at Rio Rancho Presbyterian Church, 1004 24th. St. SE Rio Rancho, NM. Burial will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date.
