Sarah Enid Beck

BECK, SARAH ENID Age 58, resident of Albuquerque, NM since 1990, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 14, 2013, after a long illness. She is survived by her beloved partner, Mike Maulsby; and her devoted dog, Wiley; her sister and brother-in-law Janet and Jim Thoroman of Richmond, VA; her stepmother, Jean Washburn and her husband, Tom, also of Richmond; her nieces, Carrie and Anna Thoroman; Mike's sisters, Jessica, Laura and Ellen; and cousin, Mary; and many friends near and far. Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur C. Beck Jr. and Sudie Y. Beck; and her sister, Rosemary E. Beck. Sarah grew up in Richmond, VA. She earned a BA in psychology from VCU. In her Richmond years she did everything from waitressing to pumping gas to being R.A. in a dorm at St. Catherine's School. In New Mexico, she had several jobs in social work, serving elders and HIV/AIDS clients as case manager and in AIDS education. More recently she enjoyed jobs at Wild Oats grocery and KUNM public radio. Whether through school, jobs, her spiritual community or even mutual love of dogs, she was attracted to people and they to her. She will remain in the hearts of many.
