Sara Elizabeth Joynes, age 76, passed away on January 1, 2017. She made a lasting impression in many children's lives as an elementary school teacher. She began her teaching career at Santa Domingo Pueblo, and taught 3rd Grade for 23 years at Hubert Humphrey Elementary School. She was a loving spouse, a devoted mother, and a tireless advocate for the developmentally disabled.
She is survived by her husband, John Lewis Joynes; her sister, Sue Ann McMillan; her children, Martin N. Downey, Christian B. Downey, Lisa Joynes Carrillo and Jack L. Joynes; and her grandchildren, Elise Grace Downey, Sage Elizabeth Downey, Holden Jackson Joynes and Sofia Louise Carrillo.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, January 6, 2017, 10:00 a.m., at FRENCH - Wyoming. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to "A Better Way of Living", 202 Central SE, Ste 200, Albuquerque, NM 87102, the non-profit agency overseeing the care of her son, Martin Downey.
