In Loving Memory of Sara Rebecca (McCart) Hanson of Albuquerque, New Mexico, who passed away Saturday, July 2,2022 at the age of 88. She was a resident of Albuquerque from the early 1970's, and was born in Samson, Alabama, the seventh of ten children, to Hub and Estelle (Mauldin) McCart on Sunday, March 25, 1934. Sara was the wife of Master Sergeant Russell Lewis Hanson, and the mother of Russell Lewis Hanson, Jr. all of whom have predeceased her.
Her husband's military service saw them stationed at different Air Force Bases throughout the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii. At Elmendorf AFB, Alaska, she was President of the NCO Wives Club, and worked for the Army/Air Force Exchanges, where she met the King and Queen of Belgium in 1964. Sara was an avid bowler, winning many trophies and awards, and worked as a bank teller in Rapid City, South Dakota, while stationed at Ellsworth AFB, and later on in banking in Albuquerque. She was the apartment manager of Waikele Towers in Waipahu, Hawaii, for a time, after her husband's retirement at Kirtland AFB, New Mexico, where they then resided permanently. In the mid 1970's they spent some time in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where Russell worked briefly for Lockheed.
Sara is survived by her daughter, Sylvia Diane (son-in-law Marc) Tachibana; grandsons, Matthew and Bradley; and great-grandsons, Ryan and Erik Tachibana; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Services and burial were held Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Florida, where she was laid to rest with her husband.
She was a wonderful, generous, and loving person and will be greatly missed.
