Sanford H. Siegel, age 66, passed away July 19 from complications of cancer. Sandy was born in Brooklyn, NY. He received a BA degree in Political Science and History from Cornell University, an MA in Political Philosophy from the New School for Social Research and a JD from Fordham Law School in New York. Sandy and his wife Rita met at college and married in 1969. Sandy was an Assistant District Attorney in the Criminal Trial Division of the New York County District Attorney's office for five years. In 1982, Sandy and his family moved to Albuquerque seeking open space and adventure. Sandy was a partner in the law firm of Atkinson & Kelsey for more than a decade before opening his own law practice specializing in family law. A Board Recognized Specialist in family law, Sandy mentored new attorneys and was listed in the Best Lawyers in America. Sandy was a member of Sandia Civitan, a long term literacy tutor and an active member of the Jewish congregation, the Chavurat Hamidbar (Fellowship of the Desert). Sandy loved hiking throughout New Mexico and traveling; he especially enjoyed exploring classical ruins. After his family, Sandy's passion was his books. He was an avid reader of history and philosophy. He founded the "Plato Club" a discussion group that continued for more than 20 years. Sandy will best be known as a loving husband, father, and friend. Sandy is survived by his wife Rita, daughter Lesley, son Douglas, brothers-in-law Michael Gross and Peter Gross, sister-in-law Laura Sarle, father-in-law Alvin Gross and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
