On August 20, 2023, Sandra Mae Burd went to be with the Lord. She took her last breath at home surrounded by loved ones. She was 81 years old. Sandra, known as Sandy by family and friends, is survived by son Richard, his wife Susan, and grandsons Anthony and Alexander. She is also survived by numerous close friends and 4 loyal German Shepherd grand dogs.
Sandy was born in York, Pa and moved to Albuquerque in 1961. She attended the University of Albuquerque where she obtained a B.S. in Education and later a Master’s degree in Education. Sandy worked for APS for 33 years and taught 2nd and 3rd grade most of those years. In retirement, she became Grandma Oma, helping raise her grandsons. She considered herself blessed to be able to spend all the time with them and have a part in their development into young men.
Sandy was involved with several organizations such as Kappa Kappa Iota, which participated in Project Linus to provide baby blankets to local hospitals for NICU and newborns. She was also involved with “We the People”, which promotes citizenship and the constitution through civic education. Sandy loved to sew and participated in various quilting and sewing groups. Sewing was her special gift and she loved to share her projects with friends and family. Sandy enjoyed social events with friends, spending time with family and the occasional trip to the casino to relax.
The Burd family invites you to celebrate her life at 10am, Friday September 1, 2023. The services will be held by French Funerals, at 7121 Wyoming Blvd NE.
