Sam B. Romero, 88, left this life peacefully to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 24, 2015. Sam was born to Sam Romero and Mary Lopez Romero on December 31, 1926 in Raton, NM. His father passed away when he was a baby and he and his beloved mother moved to Gallup, NM. In 1942, they moved to Albuquerque, where Sam graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1945. He went on to serve in the Army. Sam was very physically fit. He was named Mr. New Mexico in 1949 and Mr. Albuquerque in 1950. Sam enjoyed being a Ham radio operator for more than 50 years and was an avid golfer. In 1951, he became a police officer for the Albuquerque Police Department. Sam enjoyed a 30-year career with APD and spoke of those years as being the best of his life. He wore his badge with pride. Sam is survived by the love of his life, Shirley Preston; his son, Jeff, and wife, Connie; his daughter, Lori McComas, and husband, Greg; granddaughters, Candice Keim (Michael Perea), Aubrey Quinlan, and great-granddaughter, Kennadie Perea. He was preceded in death by his son, Timothy Romero. Sam was a truly good man who will be terribly missed, but he remains forever in our hearts.
