Sally C. Meyer, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away Wednesday, March 27th, 2019, surrounded by family.
Sally was born in October of 1937 in the Coulee City area of Washington State. She grew up in Pullman Washington attending area Schools. Sally went on to receive a Bachelor Degree in Education and English and later earned a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Washington State University.
At nineteen years old Sally married her High School Sweetheart, Ronald Meyer. She is survived by Ron Meyer; her children; their spouses and partners, John Meyer and (Lori Meyer,) Dee Meyer and (Dean Scheef,) Mike Meyer and (Erica Meyer,) Geri Meyer and (Mat Wagner,) Debi Meyer Cox and (Craig Cox.) Grandchildren also survive her,
Sydni Meyer, Michael Meyer, Kail Laughlin, Andy Belle Gustke, Nobel Meyer, Charlie Cox, Owen Wagner, Brody Meyer, and Cyrus Cox.
Out of college, Sally taught High School English, PE, Spanish. Then went on to teach Community College in the Pasco Washington area.
In ten years of living in the Pasco Washington area, she had five children and moved to back to Pullman Washington. For the next twenty years, Sally enjoyed a challenging career as the Director of Faculty Personnel and Affirmative Action at Washington State University.
In 1993 she moved to Albuquerque and served as the Director of Faculty Contracts for the University of New Mexico. She enjoyed that position for the next five years before retirement.
Sally was initiated into the professional fraternity in education by Phi Delta Kappa in 1986. In 1994 Sally was honored with the International Professional and Business Women’s Hall of Fame for Outstanding Achievements in the field of Higher Education. That same year she was presented with an Exemplary Service Award by Washington State University President, Samuel Smith, for the Washington Employees Combined Fund Drive.
For the next 20 years after retirement with Ron, Sally delighted in, traveling to visit children and grandchildren, hand built pottery, painting, reading, gardening, and hiking in the Albuquerque Foothills. Sally and Ron also enjoyed travel to Europe, Hawaii, Mexico and driving their RV over much of the United States.
Service to church and others by participating in The Saint Paul’s Methodist Church’s Deborah Circle, Family Promise, and HopeWorks were some of Sally’s contributions.
Sally lived a fulfilled, happy, successful life. Along with Ron, together they were a beautiful example of love, commitment, strength, generosity, and service to their family and others.
She believed that prayer and love heals.
Sally is dearly missed.
A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, April 2, 2019, 4:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 9500 Constitution Ave NE, Albuquerque, NM 87112.
