Sachiko Koga Carroll

d. August 6, 2017

Sachiko Koga Carroll (Albuquerque NM), passed away peacefully Sunday evening, August 6, 2017, surrounded by family.

She is survived by her sister, Hisako Tanaka, (Japan); three children, Joyce Zamora and husband, David, Charles Carroll, and Hiromi Moroney and her husband, Daniel Moroney; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Born in Osaku Fu Japan on October 10, 1927, she later relocated to Tokyo where she married her husband, SFC Robert L Carroll USA (retired-deceased). She left Japan to start her own family in the United States with her husband, Robert. Life was not always easy in the U.S., but she knew in her heart she “had to make it.”

She believed in education and always having a dream. She taught herself English and became a housekeeper. She was proud to be in America and became an official citizen on November 13, 1963, in Alexandria, VA. Furthering her education and career, she completed cosmetology school in Albuquerque, NM, at Height’s Beauty College, receiving her license in 1972, which she has maintained to this date. Wanting more for her family, she found herself back in school at Albuquerque TVI, where she studied and received her electronic certification in 1973. She had a fulfilling career at Lenkurt/Siemens as an electronic tester from 1973 – 1989 (retired) where she made some very special and lifelong friends. We are especially thankful to have Kiyoko in our lives.

Believing you are “never too old to learn,” she continued to pursue her education after retirement, attending UNM (Valencia campus) studying, math, English and writing. Grateful to her instructors, she often spoke highly of them. Out-shinning her children with her A average in all her classes, she was a “force to be reckoned with.”

She wrote a book, a collection of short stories about “seeing, hearing, and feeling from her everyday life.” She dedicated it to her children, grandchildren, and friends to “comfort their lives.”

She had a smile that shot sunshine and happiness straight into your heart.

She was fierce, dedicated, loyal, and driven. Above all, she loved her family and sacrificed in every unimaginable way to give them a better life. And she did.

She was deeply loved and appreciated by all those around her, especially her family.

In accordance with her wishes, there will be no Memorial Service. She was cremated and her remains will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery with her husband, SFC Robert Lee Carroll USA (retired) and eldest son, Robert Lee Carroll Jr.
