Ryan Andrew Vaughan, age 27, passed away on June 12, 2024. He was born March 23, 1997, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Ryan was born with Severe Combined Immune Deficiency Syndrome which is a rare genetic disorder affecting the immune system. This condition caused him life-long health challenges.
During his lifetime Ryan enjoyed everything music including listening to various genres, playing guitar and keyboard, even writing lyrics. He also studied etymology which is the study of the origin and history of words and was especially interested in Irish and Welsh culture. He played soccer, tennis, golf, and did long-distance running. Ryan was involved with scouting and church groups. He also had a great love of animals. Ryan also participated in many online groups promoting stem cell donations for transplant. During his short life, Ryan was accepting of his challenges and met them with a positive and courageous approach.
Ryan is survived by his mother, Rebecca Vaughan, his grandparents, George and Mary Vaughan, Uncle Rick and Aunt Kim Vaughan, and many cousins both in New Mexico and in Ohio. And, of course, his pets.
A Mass and Memorial Service will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 13, 2024, at San Antonio Catholic Mission, 43 Paseo de San Antonio, Placitas, NM, 87043. Light refreshments and sharing memories of Ryan will take place at the church following the service. Interment will follow at a later date.
The family would especially like to thank Dr. Laura Shevy and the providers and staff at UNM Medical ICU. Special thanks to nurses Maggie, Mari, Mimi, Colleen, and Ian for their loving care.
