Ruth C. Meyer passed away peacefully on May 12, 2017 in Rio Rancho, New Mexico at the age of 83. Ruth was born on September 21, 1933 in Rochester, New York. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Elizabeth and George Corwin of Norwalk, Connecticut.
Ruth was an accomplished pianist and pedagogue touching many students’ lives. She completed a bachelor’s degree at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in 1956, and a master of music degree from the Eastman School of Music in 1958. Ruth then moved to Salzburg, Austria where she continued her studies at the Mozarteum Academy for Music and Performing Arts. She lived in Bloomington, Indiana and El Paso, Texas before moving to Boulder where she completed her doctorate in musical arts at the University of Colorado in 1969.
She continued her career teaching at Western Colorado University in Gunnison before moving to Portales in 1972 to teach at Eastern New Mexico University. Upon retirement in 1989, Ruth moved to Rio Rancho, New Mexico where she continued to teach pedagogy and piano to area teachers. She also volunteered at a local middle school tutoring math until health issues forced her retirement in 1994.
Ruth was interred in Norwalk, Connecticut.
A Memorial Celebration of Ruth’s life will take place on Saturday, July 15, 2017, at the Albuquerque Friends Meeting House, at 1600 5th St, NW at 3:00 p.m. where all friends and former students are welcome to share in remembering the life of an exceptional woman.
