Ruth was born on December 7, 1920, in The Bronx to Everett (a printer) and Katherine Amon Ungemach. After graduating in 1938 from Commercial High School, Yonkers, NY, she worked as a secretary in New York City for Lord & Taylor. During World War II, she worked for Gibbs and Cox, Naval Architects. Ruth married John F. Kirk, Jr., in 1946. They were divorced in 1972. While raising her children, Mrs. Kirk was an active volunteer in their schools, the community and in Girl Scouting. In 1965, she returned to work as a bookkeeper for the Borough of Park Ridge, NJ. Ruth and her older sister, Katherine, retired together to Albuquerque. She was predeceased by her siblings, Marie Mackey, Katherine Ungemach, and Everett Ungemach. She is survived by her five children, Katherine Pekruhn (Marietta, OH), Margaret Bootle (London, England), Paul (The Bronx, NY), Ann Schweitzer (Tijeras, NM), and Gary (Park Ridge, NJ); and her five grandchildren, Colin and Lloyd Pekruhn, Anna Bootle, and Shannon and Devon Kirk. Rosary was recited on Thursday, June 12, 2014, 6:00 p.m. at FRENCH-Lomas. Mass was celebrated on Friday, June 13, 2014, 8:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church, 2621 Vermont NE. Burial will take place at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Bronx, NY.
