Ruth E. Davis Gawith, 83, lost her battle with cancer on March 15, 2018.
Ruth is survived by her husband of 60 years, Keith E. Gawith, Jr.; four children, Kathy Gawith, Keith E. Gawith III and wife, Patricia, Paul Gawith and wife, Renata, and Marlin Gawith and wife, Michelle; eight grandchildren, Brianna,Wendy, Paul, Timothy, Maegan, Nathan, Sarah, and Andrew; great-grandchild, Hayden; brothers, Harold Davis, Oliver Davis and wife, Danella, and Donald Davis and wife, Sharon; sisters, Lois Richards, Irene Ozanich, Gladys Yanzy, Bonnie Stute and husband, Daryl; sister-in-law, Virginia Davis; and many other relatives and friends. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Fredrick and Sarah Alma Davis; sisters, Thelma Anson, Clara Young, Violet Hyatt, Anna Archuleta and Earlene Handke; and one brother, H.F. "Freeman" Davis.
She was born in 1934 in Ojito, NM two weeks earlier than expected. It was due to the preparation for the deep snowstorm that came that night. She attended the little Ojito grade school through the sixth grade. Then she rode the Lindreth school bus for thirty miles over rough dirt roads from her 7th till her 11th grades of school. While in school she love to play softball and Drama class. Her senior year of high school, she attended Las Vegas High School and graduated there in 1953. In September of that year she enrolled at Bethany Peniel College in Bethany, OK. She was proud of finishing two years there and paying for every penny of it herself. Ruth then moved back to Albuquerque and lived at the Y.W.C.A. and worked as a nurses aid. She met Keith Edwin Gawith, Jr. who was in the Air Force from Washington State, and they were married on September 28, 1957. Keith and Ruth loved to travel and have traveled to all the fifty states, along with Canada, and Mexico. Her faith in God was very strong. She became a Christian at the age of eight years old and attended Church all her life. She was a long time member of the Church of the Nazarene where she served as a Sunday School teacher and sang in the church choir. She also sang in the Young at Heart Choir for several years. Ruth was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Friends may visit Friday, March 23, 2018, 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at FRENCH – Lomas. A Graveside Service will take place Saturday, March 24, 2018, 10:00 a.m. at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 7999 Wyoming Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 24, 2018, 11:30 a.m. at Heights First Church of the Nazarene, 8401 Paseo del Norte NE. Memorial contributions may be made in Ruth's name to Heights First Church of the Nazarene, 8401 Paseo del Norte, NE, Albuquerque, NM 87122.
