Russell Troy

August 22, 1929 — May 30, 2013

Russell (Russ) W. Troy, age 83, a resident of Albuquerque since 1969, passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2013. He was born in Michigan City, Indiana. Russ was preceded in death by his former wife, Alice J. Troy in May of 1995 after a long illness. They were married after high school in 1947. He is survived by sons, Stephen Troy of Magdalena, NM, Darrell Troy of Sunland, CA, and daughter Vicki McCormick of Irvine, CA, seven grandchildren, three great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter. He is also survived by wife Dorothy Troy, four step-children, and seven step grandchildren and two step great-grandsons. Russ started a five year apprenticeship with the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union in 1951, which became his life-long career having retired from Piñon Mechanical Services in 1994. Russ became a Boy Scout Scoutmaster when his sons were involved in scouting while living in Phoenix, AZ in the early 1960's. Russ earned his Wood Badge Certificate as an adult leader in the Great Southwest Council Boy Scouts of America. He served many years as a poll worker in Bernalillo County. Russ had a Bee Farm and garden which grandparents and all family members tended and enjoyed the fresh fruits, vegetables and honey produced. He was an avid snowmobiler, enjoyed hiking and hiked the Grand Canyon Rim to Rim. He has enjoyed square dancing and has been a long time member of FMCA and Cuartro Estados RV Club. Russ' family would like to thank Linda Upchurch for her very special care over the last five years. A special thanks to ABQ Home Care/Guided Light and Sol Amor Hospice Team for the wonderful care they provided during the past two years. Friends may visit FRENCH - University on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at French - University on Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. A reception will be held after interment at the Vineyard Retirement Community Clubhouse located at 6118 Edith Blvd NE.
