Rush Lenroot (1937-2023)
Rush A.A. Lenroot, D.D.S, passed away peacefully in his home in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Tuesday, December 26, 2023. He is survived by his two children, Rhoshel and Rand; his brother, Michael; and several nieces and nephews.
Rush was born in the middle of a snowstorm in Superior, Wisconsin on December 16, 1937. He grew up with his parents Arthur and Ethel, his older brother Michael, younger sister Susan, and his beloved dog Jet. He was a hard worker who enjoyed spending summers working with neighbours on their farms and winters snowshoeing and ice-fishing. He attended the University of Wisconsin and then went to dental school at Northwestern University in Chicago. He joined the Army in 1962 and was stationed in Germany. There he met his future wife Hollie, who was serving in the USO. They married in Switzerland in 1964 and returned to the US later that year.
Rush completed a residency in Family Practice Dentistry at the University of Southern California. Rush and Hollie then relocated to Redding, California, where they lived for the next fifty-four years. Rush divided his time between his dental practice in Redding and a position as Assistant Professor of Endodontics at the University of California in San Francisco, where he commuted to teach classes from 1968 to 1982. During this time, he also participated in community organizations such as the Rotary Club and Kiwanis Club. Rush and Hollie were both great athletes, and they and their children enjoyed playing golf and tennis, as well as spending time boating on Whiskeytown and Shasta Lakes and skiing and hiking in the beautiful mountains of northern California. Besides being a sportsman, Rush was a talented artist and landscaper, who created beautiful gardens at each of his family's homes. His gardens were always well-known to the neighborhood wildlife, including deer, squirrels, bears, and a variety of birds, as places where they could count on a good meal.
Rush retired in 1999, after thirty-five years of dental practice. He continued to be active as a volunteer at Mercy Medical Center and in community organizations. He and Hollie moved to Albuquerque in 2019 to join their daughter. Hollie passed away in January 2020, and Rush lived with his children until his passing in 2023, continuing to garden and play golf, and learning to love the green chile and red rock scenery of New Mexico. Rush was someone who made the world better for other people in many ways. He is very much missed by those who were lucky enough to know him.
