Van Hemert, Rudy L. Sr. Dr. Rudy Lee Van Hemert, Sr., age 80 went home to be with his Lord on Friday, May 29, 2015. His wishes were to pass at home and he was comforted by his entire family being with him. Lee was born in Oskaloosa, Iowa on February 1, 1935. After college, he joined the U.S. Air Force in 1958 where he received his Ph.D in Nuclear Physics. After a distinguished career, he retired as Lt. Colonel in 1980. He then worked at Signetics in microchip manufacturing. Lee enjoyed traveling the world and spending time with his family. He loved them dearly and was very proud of them. He strived for excellence in all that he did. He was fiercely loyal to his family and friends as well as any task he undertook. Lee met and married the love of his life Gayle Millicent Smallman. They were married in Montreal, Canada on June 8, 1963. The couple moved to Albuquerque, NM in 1968. They joined First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. Twenty two years later they later joined Hoffmantown Church. He is survived by his wife, Gayle; his son, Dr. Rudy Van Hemert, Jr., and wife, Donna; daughter, Dr. Linda Rademacher and her husband, Dr. Steve Rademacher; his grandchildren, Connor and Katherine Van Hemert, Madeleine and Paul Rademacher. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 1, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at FRENCH-University. A military burial will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2015, 11:00 a.m., at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd NE. The memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2015, 2:00 p.m., at FRENCH-Wyoming, with reception to follow.
