Ruby M. Valdez went to be with Our Lord Jesus Christ Sunday morning, January 23, 2022. Ruby was born on September 09, 1933, in French, New Mexico during the Great Depression. She was the thirteenth of fourteen children born to Eugenio and Julianita Rascon. Ruby was the last of her siblings to leave this earth. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugenio and Julianita Rascon; her husband, Joe Valdez of 55 years; and all her siblings, Eugenio Rascon, Eufracio Rascon, Julia Gonzales, Eva Nolan, Alfredo Rascon, Sarafin Rascon, Serbando Rascon, Sertunino Rascon, Helen Nolan, Ermie Leal, Susan Montoya, Fernando Rascon and Mary Jean Lovato. She was also preceded in death by several nephews and nieces.
Ruby was a beautiful human being and devoted wife who loved her husband tremendously. She loved her family including all her nieces and nephews. She had friends from across the United States whom she's kept in contact with for almost sixty years. She had a special love and friendship with her sister in-law, Lisa who she had a great respect for.
Ruby spent the greater part of her youth working as a nurse in Albuquerque and on the east coast of the US in various hospitals. She was a devout Catholic and loved our Lord. She prayed the Holy Rosary daily. The different Carin Terriers she owned throughout the years were a great source of comfort and companionship to her. She had a zest for life and enjoyed gardening, cooking, bird watching, reading, sewing, crafts, travel, classic western movies and was no stranger to the casinos. She had a great sense of humor and a quick wit that was only rivaled by her sisters. She had the "Rascon temperament "which she would call upon when she felt it necessary to do so. Very sweet and gracious but blunt and straightforward when appropriate. She was loved by her nephews and nieces and will be missed. She was the last of the living legacy of the Rascon clan.
A Rosary will be held on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at 10:15 a.m. followed by Mass at 11:00 a.m., at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, 5712 Paradise Blvd NW in Albuquerque. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery at 1:00 p.m.
