Roy M G Silva passed away on August 03, 2024. In the presence of his wife Sylvia and his beloved sons Benjamin and Emerson. He had struggled with many years of disability from a stroke.
He was a devout Catholic. He was always undaunted and met all challenges with Hope and perseverance. He was courageous in all that he undertook. A Believer.
But Roy will never "pass away". He was a very strong personality, extremely vibrant, energetic, passionate, intelligent and gifted man.
His curiosity, optimism and unusual wit, (not just humor) were authentic. He possessed integrity. He could study any subject and come out confident that he understood the essence of the thing. And implement action to bring it to fruition. He was undaunted.
As a husband, father and grandfather, his extreme wit, sayings, Love, approach to Life will always be present in our memories. Remember, if anyone tries to make fun of you for any reason, tell them "It is the sign of the Kings"!
He was an Electrical Engineer, a graduate of UC Berkeley. As he would explain it, "This was no picnic in the park". He was very proud of his Profession and the Professional projects that he managed. He held 7 licenses in 7 different states. One project was to help develop ( electrical portion) of the water and wastewater systems that are serving the citizens of Albuquerque today. Other projects included heavy industrial Geothermal work. Another was designing a Wind facility. His colleagues named him, moniker " Don Quixote ". Which pleased him.
He always had "at home" significant projects ongoing. It seemed there was nothing he couldn't do. All the homes needed something. Propane to gas install, replacement of skylights, new electric service drop/ room addition/ whole house remodel (all with permits, of course). We were blessed by his talents.
One of our favorite sayings, from Star Trek, was "Make it so # 1."
His hobbies were also far ranging. He was a perfectionist in all things. He was an audiophile ( built his own speakers and sometimes equipment), an auto enthusiast who could drive like a race car driver and safely. He was thrilled to meet Al Unser twice. He once owned 3 older Alfa Romeos at the same time. He fixed most of his cars. He named all the cars, the last one a truck, named Chief.. because he was a Chief Electrical Engineer. He once built a kayak boat ..He was an amateur photographer. A chess player. Enjoyed painting and woodworking. He appreciated the outdoors and hiking and camping with the family and the family dog. One of his favorite and most relaxing places was on the shores of Lake Tahoe . And just sitting relaxing in his old rubber raft.
He was an only child, preceded by his father, Luigi Silva 'cellist, who taught at Juilliard, his mother Nennele, a pianist, and his youngest son Jonathan (2023).
He is survived by his wife Sylvia, son Emerson and son Benjamin (Cynthia) and granddaughters, Julia and Eva, and by Sylvia's nieces and nephews.
We treasured his Time with us. We thank all that helped him on his Journey with compassion and Love.
We Love you , Roy , and we will never forget you, until our days are done.
Sylvia, Ben, Emerson, Cindy, Julia and Eva
