Age 91, died May 22, 2014. He is survived by his "beautiful bride" of 67 years, Lucille; his children Jay C. Sandvold, Suzanne Groves and husband John; grandchildren Terri McSpadden, Karen Massie and husband Tim, Carol Heidbrier and husband Michael; six great-grandchildren Brian, Randy, Tyler, Alex, Alicia and Travis; four great-great-grandchildren and many other family and friends. Roy was preceded in death by his grandson, W. Jay McSpadden and great-granddaughter Danielle Campbell; his siblings, Winston, Genevieve, Marian and his parents, Carl and Lucile. His unconditional love for his family was known by all who knew him. Roy served our country proudly in the United States Marine Corp during WW II, was in the first unit going into Guadalcanal, New Zealand and Samoa. He was injured in action and received several medals for his service. Following his honorable discharge, he was an accountant/bookkeeper, owned and operated a paint store and retired from the University of New Mexico in 1968 as Superintendent of Paint Department. A Memorial Celebration of Roy's life will be Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Lomas.
