Roy Lee Radford was called home peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday August 6th, 2024 at the age of 80 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was born in Weimer, Texas to Roy Robinson Senior and Arnie Mae (Scott) Robinson on November 27th, 1943. Roy Lee moved to Albuquerque with her family when she was a child. She attended Grant Chapel AME church as a teen. She was educated in the public school system and graduated from Albuquerque High School. After high school she moved to California.
Later she married La Don Radford and had one child Sean Radford. Roy Lee was a supervisor and corporate trainer for AT&T Phone Company which allowed her to travel & develop future leaders for the company before she retired. After her retirement she lived in Oklahoma and Missouri before returning to Albuquerque, NM. Roy Lee liked to stay busy and was given a part-time job at Whole-foods Market where she assisted customers in the deli. Roy Lee loved shopping and buying beautiful clothes and shoes. She was a meticulous dresser and kept up with the latest fashion-forward designs. She had an appreciation for antiques and had a unique collection of antique furniture, kitchen ware, lamps and dolls.
She is survived by her son Sean Radford (Susan) of Denver Colorado, Sister Earline Fields of Kansas City Missouri, brother Roy Robinson Jr (Adlene) of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Mary Alice Robinson of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Dolores Kirk of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and a number of nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her sister Elma Hall and both parents, Roy Robinson Sr. and Arnie Mae Robinson.
Roy Lee's family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Las Estancias Nursing and Rehabilitation for her care and to her brother Roy Robinson Jr. who looked after her affairs. She will be remembered by her authentic style that made a statement and as one of the first few Black woman who was given the rare opportunity to lead in corporate-America that paved the way for other minority women in business.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at 5:00pm - French Funerals & Cremations Lomas Chapel.
