Roy John Nielsen, 85, passed away Friday, May 27, 2016 surrounded by his family in Albuquerque, NM . He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Eleanore Nielsen; and daughter, Jane Moriarty. Roy was born May 31, 1930 in Racine, Wisconsin where he lived until he enlisted in the Air Force, was stationed in Albuquerque, NM and proudly served with the 4925th Test Group (Atomic) for four years. Once discharged, he continued this work at KAFB for the Department of Defense as a civilian. After retiring, he enjoyed playing golf, fishing, wood working in his garage and never missed an opportunity to cheer for the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Cubs. Roy is survived by his wife, Janet who he met in junior high in Racine, Wisconsin and loved for 63 years. He is also survived by his brothers, Harry and Thomas Nielsen (Lee); son, Dan Nielsen (Julie); daughter, Linda Nielsen-Weber (Kurt); and son, Eric Nielsen (Dianne), 11 granddaughters, Leah (Sam), Jennifer, Danah, April (Karl), Kate, Melanie (Connor), Jessica, Samantha, Aimee, Noelle and Beth; four great-grandchildren, Jacob, Connor, Callie, Jameson; and one on the way. Services will be held Friday, June 17, 2016, 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 1500 Chelwood Park Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87112 with reception to follow at the family's home. Private Family Inurnment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
