Roy J. Austin 73, Went to be with our Lord Monday January 7, 2019 in Albuquerque NM. Roy was born at Thompson Hospital in El Paso Texas on April 16, 1945 to James Austin and Connie Estrada Scroggins. Roy enlisted in the United States Army in 1962 where he went to basic training in Fort Chaffee Arkansas. He became club manager. He received his Chef’s certificate from Florida International University. His greatest accomplishment was cooking a dinner for 500 guests for President Ronald Reagan. He retired from the United States Army in 1983 as Sgt. First Class. Roy was an active member of the El Paso VFW, Masonic Lodge Daleville Alabama, Shriner (Ballut Abyad Shriners), Albuquerque NM. He was a member of the Moose Lodge 1517, Albuquerque NM and a dual member of Truth or Consequences Lodge 2050. He was a past Governor El Paso 2641 and a past President of the Arizona/New Mexico Moose Association. June 2018 Roy received his Pilgrim Degree of Merit. He is survived by his two daughters; and a son. Trina Maria Duran of Encino New Mexico, Donnya Rita Austin of Cathedral City CA, James Terrell Austin of North Carolina, his loving girlfriend, Brenda Avers of Albuquerque NM; her daughter; and granddaughter, Dawn Avers an Autumn Mack. Seven grandchildren, Heather Marie Lerma, Kristina Michelle Duran, Austin James Olshefski, Amber Darlene Olshefski, David Ray Duran Jr., Amanda JoAnn Crawely, Alaina Marie Duran. Four great grandchildren, Andrew Jeremy Lerma Jr., Damian David Lerma, Victoria Elizabeth Lerma and Aubriana Renee Artlip.Aunt; and Uncle, Carlos and Carmen Barreras of Arizona, Aunt and Uncle Pete and Virginia Estrada of Alamogordo NM., Mary Lou Armijo of Alamogordo NM. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers and; a sister. Freddie Austin, Larry Austin and Loretta Pacheco, Uncle Willie Estrada and Aunt Maxine Estrada Lucero. Roy was adored and loved by all who knew him. Rest in Peace Dad!
