Rosina Sandoval Sister Sfcc

A long and faithful life of Christian service has come to an end. Sister Rosina Sandoval, SFCC died peacefully at her home in Albuquerque on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 80 years of age. She was born in Truchas, NM to Pablita and Apolinar Sandoval. She graduated from Santa Cruz High School then entered the order of Dominican Sisters of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Later she transferred to the order of Sisters for Christian Community where she served for many years. Sister Rosina was a Master teacher specializing in reading. She had a tremendous gift for teaching, having a heartfelt desire to ensure that all children learned to read. Her dear friend would often remark, "Sister, you could teach a rock to read!" She was also generous in sharing her gift and knowledge of teaching with her family and colleagues. Sister's career included teaching in Grand Rapids, MI; at St. Francis of Assisi in Ranchos de Taos; at San Felipe de Neri and Queen of Heaven in Albuquerque. She also served as Director of Religious Education at San Felipe de Neri in Old Town. Sister Rosina was an advocate for religious vocations and helping the needy. She led the Pilgrimage for Vocations with the Guadalupanas, and was instrumental in collecting and delivering supplies to El Salvador to the needy through Albuquerque Coalition for El Salvador (ACES). Her lifelong dedication and commitment to serving others has influenced many and she will be dearly missed. Sister Rosina was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Benigno. She is survived by her best friend and longtime companion, Sister Nancy Fuller, SFCC; her sisters, Amelia Maestas, Lorraine Long (Frank), Rosalie Vigil (Eddie) and Fabie Sandoval; her brothers, Presiliano (Joanne), Joe (Fabiola), Elizario (Barbara) and Laido Sandoval; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A Rosary will be recited on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. at St. John XXIII Catholic Community, 4831 Tramway Ridge Drive NE, Albuquerque. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. also at St. John XXIII. She will return to her native Truchas for a graveside service at the Llanitos Cemetery on Monday, January 5, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. Instead of flowers, Sister Nancy and the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Archdiocese of Santa Fe Catholic Schools Scholarship Fund, .
