Rosemary "Chickie" Stephens

STEPHENS, Rosemary "Chickie" Age 77, a resident of Placitas, NM the past 48 years, died Friday, November 14, 2014. She is survived by her siblings, Peggy Tarpey of FL, and Paul J. Beers and wife, Suzanne of Alhambra, CA; children, Michelle Stephens and Eileen Stephens of Placitas, NM, William Stephens, and Patrick Stephens and wife, Christie of Albuquerque, NM; three grandchildren, Danielle Martinez of Laguna Beach, CA, Katarina Martinez of New York City, and Theresa Stephens; nieces and nephews; and numerous other relatives and friends. Chickie was preceded in death by her parents; her father, Ellsworth G. Beers, her mother, Laura A. (George) Beers, her husband, Louis "Red" Stephens in 2003; and her brother, William Earl Beers. She was born in 1937 in Franklin, PA and moved with her parents to Albuquerque in 1951 where she graduated from Highland High School. Chickie attended Grace Downs Airline School in New York City where after graduation she went to work for Capital Airlines. There she met Louis "Red" Stephens, a member of the Washington Redskins and they were married on December 7, 1959. He coached for Notre Dame, 1960-1963 and scouted for the Philadelphia Eagles from 1963-1966. They then settled in Albuquerque and then moved to Placitas where she was a long time member of San Antonio Mission in Placitas. She loved children and animals and served as a girl scout leader in Placitas. Chickie saved all of her money from babysitting to build a swimming pool which they opened along with their home to all of the local children and neighbors. Chickie was a loving mother, devoted grandmother, and cherished sister as well as a strong and funny person who will be deeply missed by all who knew her. A Rosary will be held Monday, November 17, 2014, 7:00 p.m., at FRENCH - Westside. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, November 18, 2014, 10:00 a.m., at San Antonio Mission in Placitas, NM. Burial will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 12:45 p.m. Pallbearers will be Patrick Stephens, Paul Beers, William Collins, Katarina Martinez, and Danielle Martinez.
