Rosemary (Mickey) Spencer, passed into the loving arms of her Savior December 8, 2024. She was the daughter of Frances Mary Carley and Castel Lamar Pittman. She was born July 29,1932 in Hattiesburg Mississippi. At the age of 14 she met her future husband, Charles (Charlie) who was only 17. They each went home and told their parents they just met the one they were going to marry. After high school she attended Henderson State College and married a year later. After marrying her first and only love Charlie Spencer in August 1951, they moved to Fort Ord, California and later to Hot Springs, Arkansas where their first daughter, Cassie Charlene, was born in 1953. A few years later they relocated to Fayetteville, Arkansas. While there Mickey became the youth minister at Central Methodist church. She enjoyed this calling for 2 years until they welcomed their 2nd daughter, Robin Michelle in 1957. During her time at Central Methodist she learned from and adored her pastor, D.L. Dykes Jr. who she felt had the true heartbeat of Jesus and from whom she learned the depths of Christ’s love.
In 1958 they moved to Albuquerque where they remained. After their daughters were in school, Mickey’s mother came to live with them where she then finished her college degree earning a Masters in Special Education. She went to work for Albuquerque Public Schools and enjoyed a full and fruitful career until her retirement in 1992. During her time with APS she helped establish and do fund raising for the Council for Exceptional Children in NM. She eventually went into administration in the Special Education Department.
Mickey, Charlie and their daughters loved taking long camping vacations throughout the United States. They also spent many years having fun, sun filled weekends boating and water skiing. They always took their family on fun, sometimes challenging adventures that bonded them even more with trust, teamwork, and love. Mickey and Charlie continued to travel after their daughters were grown and had the opportunity to visit the UK, France, Italy, Germany, Russia, Africa, Egypt, Australia, Israel, New Zealand and other nations, including many Caribbean cruises and a European cruise with the whole family. They toured most of the Western States in RVs, some of them with the Siglo de Oro RV Club. They enjoyed a full life of square dancing, backpacking, camping, bridge and a float trip down the Colorado River.
Mickey’s family and friends knew her as a fun-loving person with a fantastic sense of humor. She always had a way of entertaining others with her stories and her laugh was contagious.
