At age 95, Rosalie Rivera Schultz died Thursday, August 15, 2013. She is survived by her six children and their spouses, Phillip Vigil and Angie, Alfred Vigil and Carolyn, Gloria Portillos and Gilbert, Margaret Montoya and Pedro, Lucille Montoya, Olivia Gonzales and George; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Clorinda Rivera; and numerous nephews and nieces. Her husband, Rusty Schultz preceded her in death. Rosalie was born in Encinosa, NM in 1918. Her parents were Conrad Rivera and Beatrice Garcia. She attended Cimarron High School. Rosalie worked many jobs as a young girl, but her claim to fame was a very special job as a nanny for the Phillips family who owned Phillips Petroleum and the Philmont Scout Ranch. Rosalie worked as a waitress at the Stockman's Cafe in Springer and also at Clegg's Cafe. She retired after twelve years as a Head Cook at Springer High School. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Las Palomas Nursing Home for their loving care of our Mother. She made her home at Las Palomas for the last six years. A Rosary will be held on Sunday, August 18, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. and Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, August 19, 2013 at 10:00 a.m., both at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 605 5th St., Springer, NM. Interment will follow in Springer Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Anthony Portillos, Matthew Portillos, George Gonzales, Gary Montoya, Geno Lopez and Gary Vigil.
