Ronald Albert Metzger

Ronald Albert Metzger, 69, a retired Albuquerque Police Detective, outdoorsman, and loving husband and father was called home to his Lord Tuesday, April 17, 2018. He was born January 3, 1949 in Brooklyn, NY to Albert and Charlotte Metzger. He married his wife of 35 years, Elizabeth Ferranti Metzger, on August 12, 1983. He completed the joy in his life upon the birth of his five children and nine grandchildren. Ron was known for his unfailing dedication to humanity, from friends, neighbors and even strangers on the street. He especially gave his all to his wife and children. Ron became quite the expert in gymnastics, soccer, football, basketball, baseball, diving, and cheerleading as a coach, association officer (Zia Little League) and a constant sideline fixture at Manzano and Eldorado High Schools, and the University of New Mexico. Every stray animal from spiders to puffer fish and seahorses, from cats and dogs to pigs and horses, found a loving caretaker in his home and heart. Ron was love!

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Charlotte Metzger; and sister, Patricia. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Liz; children, Jereme Metzger and wife, Lacee of Albuquerque, NM, Jered Metzger and wife, Lauren of Tulsa, OK, Joshua Metzger and husband, Keith Dossiere of Dallas, TX, Jason Metzger and wife, Becky of Joshua, TX, and Heather Jackson and husband, Ryan of Mahomet, IL. Also surviving are his sister, Joann Jackson and husband, James of Sagle, ID, nine grandchildren with one more on the way, and numerous sisters- and brothers-in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with a reception to follow at FRENCH – Wyoming in Albuquerque.
