Roman "Butch" G. Hubbell II

d. November 27, 2016

Roman G. Hubbell II, known to all as "Butch," passed away suddenly at home on November 27, 2016. He will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother, as well as an avid sportsman, friend to all who knew him, and philanthropist.

Roman was born April 29, 1940, the son of Roman G. and Elizabeth Ley Hubbell, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He graduated from Highland High School in 1959 and attended New Mexico State University. He married the love of his life, Marianne Kryfko, on August 10, 1963, and together they had two sons, Roman G. Hubbell III and Brian E. Hubbell.

He was a member of the pioneering Frank A. Hubbell family of New Mexico, exemplifying the cowboy life as owner of a cattle ranch in Wagon Mound, NM. Roman and Marianne moved back to Albuquerque so Marianne could get proper treatment for cancer. Having to leaving the ranch was difficult, but he never gave up his boots or brand. Upon his return, Roman worked in sales, in the construction industry, building trusted business partners and life long relationships. After retiring, he enjoyed his summers in Colorado at Hubbell Haven. He was also an active member of the Hubbell House Alliance and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.

Roman was preceded in death by his wife, Marianne in 1977, and by his sister, Julia Larsen, in 2004. He is survived by sons, Roman III and his wife, Venita of Reno, NV and Brian and his wife, Karla of Albuquerque, NM; grandson Brian Jr. and his wife, Megan; great granddaughter Hannah; and granddaughter Ashley and Roman III's children, Gary Purdum, Chelsea Purdum, and Jack Wanstreet. He is also survived by mother-in-law, Leonarda Kryfko; brother-in-law, Tom Krykfo and his wife, Margaret; and many nieces and nephews. Roman is also survived by loving sisters, Betty Anne Burnell, Nancy Hubbell, and Sally Siebert; as well his long-time friend and companion, Gayle Petty.

The Hubbell family is thankful to the numerous medical personnel who provided Roman with loving care and professional treatment during his illnesses. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Roman's name to any of the following organizations: American Lung Association, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Wounded Warrior Project, or American Cancer Society. Roman always displayed his selfless, giving nature, even in times of failing health, as he always asked friends and family, "Is there anything I can do for you?" Our hope is that as we move forward, we take this wonderful example of a few words that Roman left us to make a difference.

The family will honor Roman with a Memorial Mass on Thursday, December 8, 2016, 11:00 a.m. at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 12500 Carmel Ave NE. Following the communion service, Roman will be laid to rest at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
