Rolland Robert Pyetzki, of Albuquerque, passed away Friday, May 1, 2015. He was surrounded by family and close friends during his final hours. Rolland is survived by his daughter, Roberta Clark and her husband, Aaron of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Sarah Greer and Leroy Greer; great-grandchildren, Wesley, Paul, and Haidyn; as well as two nephews and two nieces. His wife, Jeanne; parents, Gust and Hulda; brothers, Melvin, Harold, and Glenn; and sister, Ruth, preceded him in death. Rolland was 23 days shy of his 93rd birthday. He was born in Iowa, and had been a decades-long resident of New Mexico. After working briefly for the rail road, Rolland joined the Coast Guard during World War II, to protect the shores of the United States. He concluded his military career as assault boat coxswain at all major Pacific invasions. Rolland loved to share his war stories with friends and family members; he was polished at making light of his role in some very gruesome encounters. A small graveside interment service will be held at Sunset Memorial Park in Albuquerque on Sunday, May 24, 2015a�"Rolland's 93rd birthdaya�"at 9:00 a.m. The family requests donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, www.woundedwarriorproject.org , or the Disabled American Veterans, www.dav.org/Donate a��, in lieu of flowers or other gifts.
