Rolf Lindquist

Dr. Rolf E. Lindquist passed away Sunday, September 17, 2023, at the age of ninety-three.

Rolf was born on April 25, 1930, in Chicago Illinois to Nels S. and Alma C. Lindquist, both immigrants from Sweden. He grew up in Chicago and Riverdale, a suburb of Chicago. He attended Thornton Junior College and graduated from the University of Illinois in 1952. Rolf then served in the army in 1954 and 1955 working on an early computer system. After discharge he attended Northwestern University, completing a Ph.D. in Physics in 1963.

Following graduation, he moved to Albuquerque and worked for a while at Sandia Labs. He taught Physics and Mathematics at the University of Albuquerque for twenty years (1966-1986) until the school closed. After that he earned a master's degree in electrical engineering from the University of New Mexico and worked at Siemens then at Martin Marietta. Throughout his lifetime, Rolf was active in body as well as in mind: he enjoyed, hiking, camping, running and was an avid skier.

In retirement Rolf volunteered as a fossil preparator at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History, sang in the University of New Mexico chorus, and pursued various interests and hobbies including genealogy, electronics and playing the accordion. He belonged to Westerners and Friends of Paleontology until his failing health forced his withdrawal.

Rolf is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Sheila K. Lindquist, his daughter, Gwendolen M. Lindquist and her boyfriend, James M. Reuther; Rolf's stepson, Rolf J. Borneman and wife, Laura Wacha and their daughters, Audrey and Paisley Borneman; his sister, Doris Lindquist; his niece, Julie Lindquist, her husband, Rich Hallstein, and their son, Jonas Hallstein; his brother-in-law, David Kevin McCarthy; his sister-in-law, Helen Maureen Hightower and his sister-in-law, Deirdre Means and her husband, Micheal Means.

Per his request, there will be no services.
