Passed away on Sunday, November 18, at Presbyterian Hospice in Albuquerque at the age of 91. Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Roland became a naturalized U.S. citizen after his family moved to Worchester, MA where he was raised. In 1956 he moved to Albuquerque to work at Sandia National Laboratories where he continued his job as a draftsman until his retirement in 1983. A charter member of the Thunderbird Travel Trailer Club, Roland loved traveling and camping all over the United States, Canada and Mexico with his wife Jackie and extended family. An expert marksman who enjoyed a good game of horseshoes, Roland became a silversmith later in life designing many of his own unique creations. An active member of Christian Fellowship Church at the time of his death, Roland served as an usher for 55 years over the span of his lifetime. He is survived by his wife Jackie and their children Roland, Jr. (Laura), Gail Everts, Carol Kahl, Dale Garratt (Joy) and Arlene Garratt-Siegel; grandchildren Heather (D) (Harry), Bradley (Leslie), Daniel, Kayla, Alan, Rachel, Kyra, Taryn and Daejo; great grandchildren Jordon, Madison and Liam; and numerous beloved relatives and friends. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at FRENCH- Lomas, 10500 Lomas NE. A celebration of Roland's life will be held on Friday, November 23, 2012, 1:00 pm, at Christian Fellowship Church, 3901 Claremont NE, officiated by Pastor Eddie Howard.
