Roger A. Madsen, age 92, born May 26, 1923 passed away on Sept 4, 2015 with his family present. Born in Hibbing, MN, Roger grew up in northern Minnesota. In May 1943, Roger was inducted into the United States Army where he served in the 271st Combat Engineer Battalion 71st Infantry Division for three years. Upon his discharge, he returned to the University of Minnesota where completed his degree in mechanical engineering. In 1948, Roger moved to Lead, SD, where he began his lifelong career working for Homestake Mining Company. It is in Lead, where he met and married his love, Laura "Betty" Burnett on August 31, 1950 and started their family. In 1958, he and his family moved to Grants, NM, where he resided until his death. Roger actively participated in serving the Grants community from designing the Grants High School football bleachers, serving as Chairman on the hospital board, participating with the Kiwanis in service activities, and in his later years serving at the Grants Food Pantry. He also enjoyed woodworking, playing bridge and cribbage, and following the stock market. Roger is survived by his wife, Betty; three children, Janet Hebert, Patricia (husband Geoff) Bradley, and Russell Madsen; and six grandsons, Jeremy (wife Jodi) and Jason (wife Kari) Hebert, Keith (wife Katherine) Bradley, Chris (wife Kristen), Thomas, and Robert Madsen. He also leaves behind 10 great-grandchildren, a niece and many nephews. Roger was preceded in death by his daughter, Carol Madsen; his grandson, Joshua Hebert; and all his siblings. His love of family, zest for learning, the twinkle in his eye, his sudden burst into song, and his jokes will be missed, but he will be forever loved.
