Roger Ismond, 82, beloved Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather was called to his eternal resting place on Friday, March 5, 2021. He entered this world on Tuesday, November 22, 1938 in Detroit, Michigan, as the second child to Charles and Leona Ismond. Roger is survived by his daughters; Debbie Apodaca, and Charlene Mondragon, son, Roger Ismond, Jr. all of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and son Mark Ismond of Santa Barbara, California. Roger was proceeded in death by his parents, and his brother, Fred Ismond, and two grandsons; Adam Ismond, and Joshua Apodaca.
Roger proudly served in the United States Navy in the late 1950’s, and was stationed in San Diego, California. The young sailor returned to New Mexico where he met and married the love of his life, Eloisa Chacon, whom he called “Babe” until the day he died. He earned an Associate Degree in Drafting, and he retired from Barnhill Bolt Company after 43 years of service.
Roger loved his dogs Mike and Reba (yes those their names!). He would take them for hours long walks every day, treating them as best friends. He loved seeing and visiting with his children and grandchildren. He was proud of his family and the photos they brought him, which were framed and proudly displayed on his Living room wall for all to see. He was particularly proud of the photo of his 80th birthday party which had every member of his family represented. He made a hobby out of rebuilding lamps and selling them off once a year, often searching for rare parts at flea markets and yard sales. He loved heating his home with his wood burning fireplace and collecting wood he would find on his walks. His favorite color was Blue, and his favorite animal was of course his dogs, but he reveled in the majesty of the great Bald Eagle. Roger was a Christian and a member of Calvary Chapel. If Roger were to tell us his legacy, it would undoubtedly include how proud he was of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
This past Christmas Roger asked his son Mark to trace his ancestry and here is the information that they learned: Roger is a Mayflower Descendant! Roger’s family dates to the Jamestown Colony, where his 11th Great Grandmother was born to parents who came over on the Mayflower, which landed at Plymouth, Massachusetts in 1620. How do you like that Pilgrim?!
The Ismond name is an Old English personal name composed of the elements èast (meaning “Grace/ Beauty”) + Mund (meaning “Protection”). Like his name, Roger was unique. He did things his way, some might say he was maybe even a little onery, but he also embodied the qualities of his name, Grace, Beauty and Protection.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Mondragon, Eric Ismond, Joseph Apodaca, Joe Apodaca, Andres Ismond, and Marcus Ruiz. Alternate Pallbearers are Samantha Apodaca and Larissa Mondragon.
Honorary Pallbearer is Santiago Ismond.
Due to COVID 19 Restrictions a private family memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at French Funerals & Cremations, with interment at Sunset Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the American Cancer Society in Rogers name would be appreciated.
