Roger DiCamillo

Roger DiCamillo , age 79, passed away peacefully at home on May 30th, 2018. He is survived by his son, Roger and daughter-in-law Karen, and their two children, Nicholas and Jessica, and devoted partner, Marion McDonald. Roger is also survived by his brothers, John DiCamillo, Harold Cassidy and sister, Sylvia Roberts. Roger was preceded in death by his parents; Frank and Margueritte and older brother Frank. Roger was born November 21, 1938 in Gallup, NM. Roger graduated from Cathedral High School with many successful achievements in football, basketball and track. He attended Ft Lewis A & M Junior College on a football and basketball scholarship. He received a bachelor's degree from the University of New Mexico in Architecture and Art and was a member of Delta Sigma Phi. During his Junior year he married Dorothy Howe, and in 1963 their son Roger was born. After college, he worked in the field of architectural engineering in Albuquerque, moved to Los Alamos in 1966, where he opened an architectural/construction office and soon after, a fine arts gallery called, " Gallery +". As a building contractor and architect, one of his design-build achievements was the Los Alamos Ski Lodge. He moved to Albuquerque in the early 90's, where he devoted his full attention to his passion for art, while designing and building resident renovations.

Roger was a pilot of his own plane; he became a national certified ski instructor and loved outdoor activities where he spent the majority of his free time with his family and friends. His artistic skills led him to different chapters in his art style, from Southwestern to Native American, Italian Landscapes and most recently, The Sky and Beyond. He found his roots in his many travels to Italy with Marion, family and friends. His love of Italy led him to his prolific renderings of Italian landscapes.

He received numerous awards for his contribution to the world of Art, including the induction to the "Treasures of Albuquerque” where he was honored for his excellence in the arts and for giving back to the community by sharing his time, talent and passion. He helped develop a new generation of art lovers and artists to carry on the legacy of New Mexico's diverse culture.

The family would like to thank Ambercare-Hospice, and especially his nurse Kirk Hutchinson for his compassion. Roger talked highly about Kirk, and considered him a good friend.

A celebration of life will be held at his home for his close friends and family on June 30th, 2018 from 1-4PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations go to the outdoor youth organization that he was involved in, that promotes youth outdoor activities; DRKYHC, 2831 Cloudcroft Cir. Las Cruces, NM 88011, a 501c3 nonprofit youth organization.

We all know the phrase "Jack of All Trades, Master of None", but if you knew Roger, you would say he was a master of all. If you measured friendships in dollars, Roger would be a Billionaire.
