It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Roger C. Blair at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, on February 20, 2025. Roger was the youngest of seven children born to Dan and Elisa Blair in Albuquerque North Valley and in his adult life he moved three times. Each time about three blocks from where he was born. He loved his neighborhood and his neighbors. Roger celebrated his 39th birthday (several times). He graduated from Valley High School and Western Technical Institute and then joined the Air National Guard and served for six years. He was a man of many talents, earning the title of "The Renaissance Man" bestowed upon him by his family and friends. He enjoyed fixing complicated things. There wasn't anything he couldn't fix, and he loved to repeat his famous saying; "If he couldn't fix it, it couldn't be fixed".
Roger was a gifted cartoonist and had many of his cartoons published in the Albuquerque Tribune. He also was a talented singer and played guitar. He had a band called (The Tropics) and performed in various venues in the Albuquerque area.
After retiring as the Chief Electrical Inspectors Supervisor from the City of Albuquerque, he fulfilled a life-long dream of doing stand-up comedy. Roger was called the "Southwestern Style Borscht Belt Comic". Instead of saying "Take my wife Please!" he would say "Take my wife Por Favor!" He won the 2001 New Mexico Hispano Entertainers Association People's Choice Award-Comedian of the year. He performed in all the casinos in New Mexico as well as other venues in New Mexico, Denver, Florida, Las Vegas, Nevada, and in Poland. He performed twice at the famous Southwest Airlines Chili Cook off in Dallas, Texas. A major highlight of his career was opening for Joan Rivers in Las Vegas, Nevada. Roger appeared on national television as well as many other local television shows in Albuquerque. He was also a contestant in the "Last Comic Standing" television show. Roger was a member of The Knights of Columbus.
Roger was the foundation of our family. A man we depended on for many things and he never let us down. He was never too busy to lend a helping hand to his extended family, friends and even strangers who needed help.
Roger will be missed by all who loved him and enjoyed his kindness, and great sense of humor.
Roger was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Theresa L. Blair, sons Darrel Blair and wife Christina, and Sean Blair; daughters Yvette Allen and DeVonne Blair; grandsons; Daniel Blair, James Allen, Preston Allen; granddaughters, Hannah Allen and Analisa Blair; great granddaughter Iris Theresa Allen. Roger was also a loving uncle to his many nieces and nephews.
