Rodney Alan Barreras

Rodney Alan Barreras, age 54, passed away on October 17, 2024, in Durango, Colorado, after a battle with cancer. He fought hard and always maintained a good spirit throughout the entire fight.

Rodney was born in Saginaw, Michigan on October 23, 1969. As a young child, he moved to New Mexico with his mother and was raised in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Later he moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico then finally to Pagosa Springs, Colorado.

Rodney accepted Christ into his heart and in his final days was baptized on October 7, 2024 into the Greek Orthodox Church. Upon baptism he adopted the name Barbaros after Saint Barbaros the Myrrhgusher.

In addition to his love for his family and friends, his passion was growing high-quality cannabis. He spent the last years of his life building a Cannabis Farm. Due to his diligent efforts and tireless coaching, the farm will survive and flourish. Rodney loved spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed barbequing, which he did often, watching movies with his family, reading books, and training in mixed martial arts. He also had a drive to rescue dogs. He couldn’t stand the thought of animals being mistreated and would go on to rescue as many as he could.

His quick wit and engaging smile enabled him to make friends wherever he went. He left a lasting impact on each person he met in his life and everyone he met had a story to tell about Rodney afterwards.

Rodney is survived by his wife Stefanie King. His children: Jackson Barreras, Dominic Barreras and wife Railee with their daughter Anastasia. His mother Judy Wesener and husband Theodore. His father Raymond Barreras and wife Janet. He is also survived by his two brothers, Steven Barreras and Frank Holnagel and wife Carrie. His grandmothers, Barbara Wesener and Pabilita (Polly) Barreras. And many other family and friends who have shared love.

He was predeceased in death by both of his grandfathers, Donald Wesener of Burt, Michigan and Raymond Barreras Sr of Las Cruces, New Mexico.

Rodney’s funeral will be in Albuquerque, New Mexico, at Saint George Greek Orthodox Church located at 308 High St SE, Albuquerque, NM 87102, on Friday, October 25, 2024. Viewing at the Church will be 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m., immediately followed by the funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Then on Monday, October 28th, there will be a graveside service at Vista Verde Memorial Park located at 4310 Sara Rd, Rio Rancho, New Mexico 87124.
