Robert “Vernie” L. Salazar, beloved husband, son, father, brother, grandfather and friend passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at the age of 72 after losing his battle with pancreatic cancer. Born to Celina and Abenico Salazar in Roy, NM on April 21, 1945, Robert went on to graduate from Highlands with both a B.A. and M.A. He later moved to Albuquerque with his wife, Barbara, where he retired from education after 25 years. He loved classic cars, meeting and talking to new people, and was known for his passion for helping people.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Celina and Abenico; his sister, Mary Ellen; and his sister-in-law, Alice. He is fondly remembered by his wife, Barbara; sons, Robert (Denise) and Ronald (Jim); brothers, Rudy (Molly), Francis (Josie) and Allen; and his grandchildren, Ashley (Jason) and Danielle (Nicole); and great-granddaughter, Priscilla; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Rosary will be recited Sunday, April 15, 2018, 5:30 p.m., at FRENCH – Wyoming. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, April 16, 2018, 8:30 a.m., at Our Lady of the Annunciation Parish, 2621 Vermont NE. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery with a reception to follow at the Garden Club.
