Robert "Bob" Whittinghill

February 12, 1916 — October 4, 2015

Robert M. Whittinghill, our beloved father, passed away October 4, 2015 at the age of 99.
Robert (Bob) was born on February 12, 1916 in Helena, MT. He attended the University of Montana where he was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity and the quarterback for the Universities football team. In 1935 he played against the University of Southern California on their home field, the Coliseum. After graduation he began working at Mountain Bell telephone Co., but with the advent of World War II, he volunteered, joining the Army on December 31, 1942. Serving as a Captain in the US Army Signal Corp., he was sent to England, where as he would put it, met the love of his life, Audrey (Paddy) Batchelor, who was serving in the British Army.
Married in England, he returned home in 1946. Paddy and their first child, Judy followed later, coming over on the Queen Mary as did many of the War brides. In Montana, he continued his career with the Telephone Company, being transferred several times during the next 10 years and welcoming three more children into his family, Georgie, Greg, and Holly. When he came to Albuquerque as the District Manager in 1955 he decided this was where he wanted to stay. He loved New Mexico for its great weather and Golf... his passion. He was a charter member of the Four Hills Country Club, member of the Chamber of Commerce, and Rotary Club. In the latter part of his career he lobbied for the Telephone Company, spending time in Santa Fe during their sessions. He was well liked and respected for his work and was proud of his accomplishments in the Legislature. He retired in 1981.
Bob was preceded in death by his beloved Paddy; loving daughter, Holly; all of his five sibling; and his mother and father.
He is survived by his three children, Judy Whittinghill, Georgie Elias, and Greg Whittinghill; his grandchildren, Kimberly, Christopher, Josh, Randy, and Jordan; and his four great-grandchildren, Brandon, Jocelynn, Beck and Sage.
Our father will be greatly missed for his sense of humor, passion for reading and the English language, love for his family and golf.
Memorial services will be held for the family only.
