Robert Andrew Whealy

Robert Andrew Whealy passed away October 25, 2014. He was born in Davis, South Dakota August 28, 1925 to Marvin and Eva Whealy (nee Stewart). His childhood was spent in Colton, SD. Immediately after graduation from high school in Lennox, SD he enlisted in US Navy and served almost three years, including overseas duty with Fleet Air Wing 7, in Great Britain on Anti-Submarine Duty. He attended South Dakota State University, earning the Degree of Bachelor of Science. He taught high school two years at Lennox, and also served as Principal. Summers were spent at Colorado University in Boulder, CO where he met the love of his life, Geraldine Snyder. Bob and Gerry were wed on June 3, 1951. Shortly after marriage, he attended Wayne State University, Detroit, MI where he earned a Master's Degree in Social Administration. Bob was a long-time employee of the Field Command; Defense Nuclear Agency (FCDNA) in the Computer Division located at what was then Sandia Base. He also achieved the rank of Captain in the Naval Reserve. Survivors include his children, Terri Dettweiler and husband Jack, Patti Peixotto and husband Jim, David Whealy and wife Carol and Laura Stubblefield and husband Dave. He is survived by 13 grandchildren and three step-grandchildren. They include Matt, Kyle and Andrew Seals, Rebecca Peixotto Wells, James and Robert Peixotto, Bryon, Kurtis and Mark Whealy, Andrea Morales, Elizabeth and Jason Pepe, Christina Mebust, Robert and Lee Stubblefield and Ellen Love, as well as 14 great-grandchildren and three more on the way. He will be laid to rest on Friday, November 7, 2014 at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe with his beloved wife Gerry, (who predeceased him in April of 2011). A private family service will follow. The family requests that those who wish to honor his memory can provide an honorarium to a veteran's organization such as Wounded Warriors, Paws and Stripes or the organization of your choice.
