Age 94, died suddenly on October 25, 2014, because it was his time, not from any specific illness. Born February 29, 1920 in Bowie, Texas, he was the only child of Grace and Lonnie Rhyne, was raised in Brownfield, Texas, and lived in Albuquerque since 1953. He proudly served our country in World War II as a Gunnery Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, 2nd division, where he was in combat in the South Pacific campaigns of Guadalcanal, Tulagi, Tarawa, Saipan, and Guam. He received an Honorable service button and a Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of Lodge #60 of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of New Mexico, the Veterans of Foreign Wars 401, the Jerry Murphy Chapter 381 of the Marine Corps League, the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation, and the Marine Corps Association of the 2nd Marines. He worked in the auto parts business from 1946 until he retired at the age of 92 in 2012. He was with CARQUEST Auto Parts for 35 years, where his coworkers were his best friends. He is survived by his son, Robert L. Rhyne Jr, MD and beloved daughter-in-law, Irina Rhyne. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Albuquerque. Bob's greatest joy was dealing with his customers and he will be missed by many. Services will be Thursday, October 30, 2014, 10:00 a.m. at FRENCH - Lomas. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.
