Robert N. Parsons

PARSONS, Robert N. (Bob) Maj. USAF (Ret.) Age 81, passed away Monday July 21, 2014. Bob was born on Feb 2, 1933 in Kenedy, Texas to S. D. and Lenora Parsons. He was raised in several towns in South Texas After graduation from high school he attended a Junior College in Corpus Christie where he played football. Bob entered the US Air Force in Jan 1952 as an Administrative Specialist. While he was stationed at Pepperell AFB, Newfoundland he met and married Betty Lund. Over a period of 14 plus years Bob completed college courses to further his education. Because of determination to complete college he was selected for the Air Force "Boot Strap" program. This program provides for completing a college degree and a commission as an officer. He attended the University of Omaha and received a Bachelor Degree in General Studies. He then attended Officer Training School at Lackland AFB, TX and on 17 Nov 1967 he was commissioned as a 2Lt. During his officers career his jobs were as an Administrative Manager, Executive Support Officer and Commander of a Base Support Group. He was stationed at numerous overseas bases which include: Pepperell AFB, Newfoundland Canada; Athens Greece, Incurlick Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Vietnam His service brought him to Kirtland AFB where he, Betty and his sons became longtime residents of Albuquerque. After a second tour of duty at Kirtland he retired in Jan, 1984 as a Major. Bob later worked for the Albuquerque school system as a substitute teacher. For all of Bob's life he was an avid hunter and fisherman, having a great love for the outdoors. He had an even greater love for his faithful hunting dog Bruiser and often said that the worst day of his life was saying good bye to Bruiser. Bob was an active member for many years with the New Mexico Wildlife Federation, Horacio Martinez VFW Post 5432 and Duran y Gallegos American Legion Post 69. Bob is survived by his wife Juanita and her family; sons Robert Jr. and wife Nancy of Dayton Ohio, Tanner of Portal Oregon and Dustin and wife Terre of Phoenix Arizona, and several grand children; sister Betty Ann Lavalle and husband Joe of San Antonio Texas and their family. Bob was preceded in his death by his parents S. D. and Lenora Parsons, wife (of over 50 years) Betty who passed on Dec 11, 2005 and brother Danny Parsons. Services will be held Sunday, July 27, 2014, 2:30 p.m., at FRENCH - Westside, with viewing at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at Santa Fe National Cemetery on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. Please visit our online guestbook for Robert at .
