Bud Marsh, age 95, a resident of Albuquerque since 1950 passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2016. Bud was predeceased by his wife, Velma Jean Marsh (Jeanie). He is survived by his three children, Rob Marsh of Lake Tahoe, Nancy Marsh Ware of Albuquerque, and Clinton Marsh and his wife, Elaine of Stafford, VA; grandchildren, Ryan Marsh of San Diego, CA, Todd Marsh and his wife, Kristi of Park City, Utah, Caitlin Marsh of Stafford, VA, Rachel Marsh and her fiancé, Joseph Johnson of Stafford, VA, Jennifer Smithey and her husband, Keith of Edgewood, Maryland; and two great grandchildren, Hudson and Reese Marsh of Park City, Utah.
Bud was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1921. He and his family lived in El Paso, Texas throughout his youth where he graduated from El Paso High School. Bud met his wife, Jeanie, at Highland Park Baptist Church in El Paso where they were married in 1943. In December of 1943, Bud volunteered for service with the U.S. Army Air Corps and served until his honorable discharge in 1946.
Bud and Jeanie then moved to San Diego, CA where Bud began his architectural engineering career with Consolidated Aircraft where he worked on the B-24 bomber. His career then took Bud and Jean to Spokane, WA and then on to Los Alamos, NM where he worked for the Zia Company, a Los Alamos National Laboratories Facilities contractor.
In 1950, Bud and Jean and their family moved to Albuquerque where Bud's architectural career continued with several private firms. In 1964 Bud began government service with the Federal Bureau of Indian Affairs where he was involved in the design and construction of many Bureau of Indian Affairs schools throughout the country. In 1974, Bud and Jean moved to Washington DC where Bud continued his government service with the US Veteran's Administration. He was involved in the design and construction of numerous veteran's hospitals throughout the country to include the Veteran's Hospital here in Albuquerque.
Bud and Jean retired in 1981 and returned to their home in Albuquerque. After working together on several home improvement projects, they began many travels around the U.S. and Canada in their travel trailer.
Throughout the years camping and fishing in the mountains of northern New Mexico and southern Colorado were highpoints of their family's summer vacations. Bud was an excellent high mountain stream trout fisherman who took great pride in passing those skills on to his children and grandchildren. He was a talented artist who captured many family moments in his sketches, paintings and poems. He also enjoyed golfing with his many friends and was an avid Lobo football fan. Bud was a wonderful husband and father who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Wednesday, August 17, 2016, 3:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Lomas. The service will be officiated by family friend, Chaplain Gary Thieme.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bud's honor to The Salvation Army, your favorite veterans organization, or to a charity of your choice.
