LOFTFIELD, ROBERT B. Dr. Robert B. Loftfield, age 94, a resident of Albuquerque since 1965, died peacefully at home, Thursday, September 4, 2014. He is survived by his 10 children, Lore Loftfield De Bower and husband, Larry of Woods Hole, MA, Eric Loftfield and wife, Mary of Hatchville, MA, Linda Loftfield of Los Angeles, CA, Norman Loftfield and wife, Karin, of Gottingen, Germany, Bjorn Loftfield and wife, Barbara Moore, of Troy, NY, Curtis Loftfield of Poulsbo, WA, Katherine Loftfield of New Orleans, LA, Earl Loftfield and wife, Peggy, of Albuquerque, NM, Allison Loftfield and husband, Mike Dinsdale, of York, England, Ella-Kari Loftfield and partner, Peter Reed, of Albuquerque; 26 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 13 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ella Bradford Loftfield; brother, Richard Loftfield; and sister, Muriel Claflin. A pioneer in the field of biochemistry, Dr. Loftfield's research and teaching career took him from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard University and the Massachusetts General Hospital, to Sweden, England, Germany and Finland. In 1964, he was recruited to help establish the UNM Medical School, which awarded him the "Living Legend Award" in 2013. Cremation has taken place. Dr. Loftfield's life will be celebrated on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1100 Indian School Road NE.
